The <strong>Chancenkarte (Opportunity Card) is considered a &#8220;search visa&#8221; <\/strong>and grants the holder a residence permit for up to one year. During this time, the focus should be on finding a job. Nevertheless, it is possible to complete<strong> vocational training in Germany <\/strong>with the opportunity card. The following points must be noted:<\/p><ol><li><strong>Entry into Germany <\/strong>is with Chancenkarte (Opportunity Card).<\/li><li>The <strong>Chancenkarte-holder <\/strong>can look for a suitable training place during their one-year stay.<\/li><li>Once a <strong>training contract <\/strong>has been<strong> signed<\/strong>, the Chancenkarte-holder can apply to the local immigration office for a change to a different (longer-term) residence permit (the duration of training in Germany is usually at least two years).<\/li><li>The trainee must submit all <strong>necessary documents <\/strong>(ID, certificates, residence permit, proof of means of subsistence and training) to the <strong>immigration office <\/strong>together with an application for an extended residence permit.<\/li><li>If the residence permit cannot be issued by the immigration office in time, a <strong>provisional residence permit<\/strong> may help. This is issued by the immigration office responsible as soon as the Chancenkarte-holder has submitted their application for an <strong>extension of their residence permit <\/strong>or a <strong>change to a different residence permit<\/strong>. Once the Foreigners&#8217; Registration Office issues an extended residence permit, the provisional residence permit automatically loses its validity.<\/li><li>Only after the Chancenkarte has been converted into a residence permit for the purpose of <strong>training in Germany <\/strong>can the Ausbildung (vocational training) in the company begin.<br \/><strong>Important: <\/strong>A valid residence permit (or written confirmation from the immigration office, e.g. in the form of a certificate of fictitious status) must be available before training can officially begin.<\/li><li>After passing the final examination, the residence permit must be changed again via the responsible Foreigners&#8217; Registration Office. It serves only as a &#8220;search visa&#8221;.<\/li><li><strong>Do not discontinue <\/strong>your <strong>training or change companies <\/strong>without the consent of the Foreigners&#8217; Registration Office \u2013 this could jeopardise your entire stay in Germany.<\/li><\/ol><p><strong>Example 1: <\/strong><\/p><p><strong>Fatima <\/strong>enters Germany with Chancenkarte to explore career options. In the fourth month, she finds a <strong>training position as a nursing assistant<\/strong>. Here&#8217;s what happens next for Fatima:<\/p><ol><li>She signs a <strong>training contract <\/strong>and registers directly with the relevant immigration office.<\/li><li>Fatima then applies for a <strong>change to \u00a7 16g-AufenthG <\/strong>for training in Germany.<\/li><li>As soon as the <strong>residence permit <\/strong>has been issued <strong>by the local immigration office<\/strong>, Fatima can start her training.<\/li><li>After successfully completing her training, she can reapply to the <strong>immigration office <\/strong>to change her residence permit. The company can then hire Fatima as <strong>a skilled worker<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ol><p><strong>Example 2: <br \/><\/strong>Leila comes from Morocco with Chancenkarte ( via points-based eligibility) and has <strong>A2-level German language skills<\/strong>. In her country of origin, she completed a <strong>two-year vocational qualification<\/strong>, but this is not fully recognised in Germany. She therefore needs to obtain<strong> additional qualifications<\/strong>. After six months in Germany, she receives a <strong>training contract as a retail salesperson <\/strong>(duration: at least two years).<\/p><p><strong>This is what happens next for Leila:<\/strong><\/p><ol><li><strong>Leila informs the immigration office <\/strong>about her training contract.<\/li><li>She applies to <strong>switch from the opportunity card to a training permit (\u00a7 60a AufenthG)<\/strong>, as the training lasts at least two years.<\/li><li>The <strong>immigration office reviews <\/strong>the application and <strong>grants approval<\/strong>.<\/li><li>As soon as Leila receives her new residence permit, <strong>she officially begins her training<\/strong>.<\/li><li><strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\">After completing <\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">her training, Leila can apply for a <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\">qualified position <\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">and change her residence permit again \u2013 e.g. to a <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\">work permit<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">.<\/span><\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-51b2ad3d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"51b2ad3d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3>Conclusion \u2013 Ausbildung with Chancenkarte in Germany<\/h3><p>The <strong>Chancenkarte <\/strong>offers <strong>skilled workers and career starters from third countries <\/strong>a unique opportunity to gain a foothold in Germany \u2013 whether through job hunting or vocational training. Anyone who finds <strong>a training place <\/strong>with Chancenkarte must, under certain conditions, change to a suitable <strong>residence permit for training <\/strong>(Section 16g of the Residence Act) in good time.<\/p><p>Once the <strong>training has been successfully completed <\/strong>(minimum duration two years), the applicant can reapply to the relevant immigration office to change their residence permit, e.g. to a <strong>residence permit for employment <\/strong>(Section 18a or Section 18b of the Residence Act). The company may then hire the former Chancenkarte-holder as <strong>a skilled worker<\/strong>.
