Our trip to Kenya was not just about seeking warmth; we had an inspiring story to uncover–one of determination, resilience, and a young woman’s swift journey to Germany.
Mitchel Achieng Onyango, a business and IT Specialist, had big dreams—she had accomplished what many only aspired to—securing a Chancenkarte (opportunity Card) visa to Germany in a record-breaking five days.
Learning about the Chancenkarte
“I had been researching ways to work abroad, and when I watched an interview you had with Tony Kipsanai on Rajore Clan YouTube channel about the Chancenkarte, I knew this was the perfect opportunity to try my luck,” Mitchel shared. “Applying and receiving the visa in just five days was and still sounds like a miracle to me.”
In a system often fraught with delays, Mitchel’s experience stood out as an exceptional success story, proving that opportunities in Germany are within reach with the right preparation and support.
We met Mitchel in Nairobi, where she shared the details of her journey over a refreshing glass of fresh passion juice at the upmarket Java Restaurant in Hurlingham.

“When I mentioned the possibility of moving to Germany with my elder sister and mum, they were very positive. My sister even agreed to help fund my blocked account,” said Mitchel.
With this crucial step secured, the rest of the process moved smoothly.
A remarkable turnaround for Mitchel’s journey to Germany was her visa approval. She submitted her application to the German embassy in Nairobi with all documents in order, and to her amazement, within just five days, she received a call from the embassy stating that her visa was ready.
“I submitted my application with the required documents, as expected. The embassy staff checked them and asked me to fill out another form with all my contact details so the G4S courier team could send the visa once it was ready,” said Mitchel.
She added, “Within five business days, I got a call from the embassy that my visa was ready and the G4S courier was on their way to deliver to my house. It looked unreal, I still believe that this was a miracle.”
This was an unusually fast turnaround time, considering that many applicants wait weeks or even months for a response. Mitchel attributed her success to her thorough preparation, prompt submission of all required documents, and perhaps a stroke of good fortune.
Blocked Account
Ordinarily, applicants are required to block their funds for a full 12 months in a blocked account, ensuring they have sufficient financial resources to sustain themselves during their stay in Germany. However, Mitchel’s case was different.
“Around mid-last year, I attended a German job fair in Nairobi. We were told that it was possible to block for 6 months as well,” said Mitchel.
The German Embassy in Kenya introduced a new provision allowing applicants to block their funds for just six months. This change has significantly reduced applicants’ financial burden, making the process more accessible and feasible for many aspiring professionals like Mitchel.
She seized the opportunity without hesitation by blocking her funds for six months. This enabled her to allocate her resources more efficiently while ensuring that she had enough savings to cover her initial expenses in Germany while maintaining financial stability.
